Red-Listed Monarch
Red-Listed Monarch draws on the designation of species at risk. White porcelain butterfly wings, enclosed beneath a transparent glass bell jar, take on a fragile, bodily presence, evoking both preservation and disappearance. The bell jar suggests a specimen held in protection yet also in confinement, echoing the uneasy tension between safeguarding fragile life and restricting it.
The migratory monarch butterfly is classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and is considered at risk of extinction.
Exhibited at the John James Audubon Center, Mill Grove, PA, 2026.
