Care Water Food Shelter Cost
Care – Water – Food – Shelter – Cost (Penn State Studio for Sustainability and Social Action, April 2021), with a foreword by Simone Osthoff, features reflections on Yvonne Love’s work, which Osthoff describes as “collaborating across disciplines…. Love….. enlists scientific data, literature, and birdwatching and climate research. Her Bell Jar series is an installation made of close to 100 slipcast porcelain pieces hand carved with words and images, creating a metaphor for the loss of biodiversity in the North Atlantic coast of the U.S.”

Living with Worlds
Living With Worlds As They End (Bird Editions, Northumberland, 2021), a project initiated by Yvonne Love, brought together writers, artists, and an anthropologist to respond to the profound challenges of a warming planet, with an introduction by Deanna Day. Day writes that Love’s work “focuses on this care… Her repeated imagery of birds—of flight and feathers, of flocking and migration—led us with an ethos of consideration, like a pair of wings stretched out to both guide and to embrace.”

A Quick and Tragic Thaw
A Quick and Tragic Thaw (Ruffin Gallery, University of Virginia, 2019), a collaborative project, explores artistic responses to the climate crisis, with an introduction by Nancy Campbell. Campbell writes, “A rich reading of science and literature runs through this work and is transmuted by it. Art is a space for what Love and Russomagno describe as ‘an emotional meditation on loss’ that is necessarily absent from science, but at the same time is essential before humans can transform science into onward action. Humans often seem unable to act on knowledge—their tragic ‘flaw’ perhaps? To address climate crisis with the urgency that is necessary scientists and policymakers and artists all have a role to play. This is work which not only questions, but inspires the viewer to ask questions in turn.”
