Breath

Breath is a series of porcelain forms (6” × 4” × 4”), some marked with smoke, that capture moments of time—holding and releasing breath as both metaphor and meditation. The work reflects an exploration of attention, embodiment, and awareness, tracing the tension between stillness and impermanence.

Breath (featured as Figure 3 in Salguero’s “The Role of Buddhist Studies in Fostering Metadisciplinary Conversations and Improving Pedagogical Collaborations,” Religions, 2021) was created alongside the interdisciplinary teaching collaborations discussed in the article. My teaching and professional practice often inform and shape one another, and this series emerged from that intersection—an exploration of attention, embodiment, and awareness. Each work captures anxious moments in time—holding and releasing breath—as both metaphor and meditation.
